Am I covered when I drive a rental car?

Yes. When you rent a car for personal use, we'll cover that vehicle for up to 14 days in the event of a covered loss. Any coverages you have on your current vehicle are extended to your rental car. This coverage is only available in the US, US territories and Canada. Some restrictions may apply, so be sure to review your policy in the HiRoad app for more details.

Please note that this coverage does not include the “optional” insurance that your rental car provider may offer. You can add additional protections such as personal accident insurance, personal effects coverage or supplemental liability protection with your rental car provider. Please note that some of these coverages may overlap with your existing auto coverage, depending on your current policy.

Your rental car company may also recommend waivers for collision, damage or loss. These offerings are to reduce or eliminate the need for you to use your own insurance if you get in an accident while using your rental car. These waivers may increase the cost of your rental car, so be sure to consider all the risks before adding them.
