How does the app know when I'm driving versus being a passenger?

The HiRoad app is pretty smart but it may need your help from time to time. Remember to review your trips. Make sure you classify your trips as “driving” or “not driving.” This helps the app learn your habits, especially in the beginning when you’re tuning your app.

Our data science team also incorporates known public transit routes, times of day, repeated trips, traffic patterns and information from thousands of test rides to be able to classify trips accurately.

Once you’ve trained your app and start driving with it, make sure to classify your trips accurately—your “not driving” trips help us reward you for your personal driving habits versus others.

Check your app at least once a week—a quick swipe lets you edit, if needed.
